Terms of Service

Acceptance
By downloading or using Ting ("the app"), you agree to these terms.
Licence
You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, in accordance with the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
Educational content
The app provides Mandarin Chinese language learning material, including translations, pinyin romanisation, and tone annotations. This content is provided for educational purposes. While it is prepared carefully, we make no warranty that every translation or annotation is free from error, and it should not be relied upon as professional translation or interpretation.
Pronunciation audio is produced by your device's built-in speech synthesis and approximates, but does not perfectly reproduce, native speech.
Acceptable use
You agree not to reverse engineer, redistribute, or resell the app or its bundled learning content.
Your account
You can use Ting without an account. If you create one — with an email address and password, or through Sign in with Apple or Google — you are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure. You can delete your account at any time from Profile in the app, which deletes it and the progress stored with it from our servers.
Ting Pro subscription
Ting's learning features are available with a Ting Pro subscription, bought through the App Store:
- Yearly, with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. If you don't cancel before the trial ends, the yearly plan starts and is charged to your Apple ID.
- Monthly, charged to your Apple ID each month.
Prices are shown in the app and on the App Store before you confirm, in your local currency. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; your Apple ID is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your device's Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. Any unused part of a free trial is lost when you buy a subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple under its own policies.
Ting Pro includes: the feed of clips sequenced to your level; pinyin and English under each word; tap-to-define; saved words and spaced-repetition reviews; and progress tracking.
YouTube content
Ting's video clips are played from YouTube, through YouTube's official embedded player, and belong to their creators. Ting does not host, copy or claim ownership of any video.
- By watching clips in Ting you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service.
- Ting does not charge for, or sell access to, YouTube videos. The Ting Pro subscription pays for Ting's own learning features listed above — the sequencing, the annotations, the dictionary, reviews and progress.
- Every clip names its channel and links to the full video on YouTube, where it remains free to watch.
Apple's standard terms
Your use of Ting is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement.
No warranty
The app is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by law.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia.
